Gregory Dreux Crateau, 48, of Davie County, was arrested June 23 in Winston-Salem on a warrant charging him with failing to register as a sex offender, according to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.
The warrant was issued March 26 after investigators alleged Crateau failed to comply with North Carolina’s sex offender registration requirements.
Authorities said Crateau was convicted Sept. 12, 2016, on four counts of indecent liberties with a minor. He was released from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction on June 9, 2022, but was later incarcerated again in 2025. He was released from prison on March 10, 2026.
According to investigators, Crateau was registered with the Davie County Sheriff’s Office as a sex offender and had acknowledged the legal requirements to register, including reporting any change of address and registering within three business days after being released from a jail or prison.
Crateau was taken into custody in Winston-Salem and booked into the Forsyth County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Davie County District Court on July 9, 2026.
