Jeremy Michael Dunay, 38

CONCORD, N.C. — One person has died following a crash in Concord, and the driver originally charged with injuring two children while driving impaired is now facing a murder charge.

Jeremy Michael Dunay, 38, was initially charged June 22 with two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle after investigators alleged he was driving while impaired on Concord Parkway near Poplar Tent Road.

According to arrest warrants, the crash seriously injured two children, a 4-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy. The warrants allege the 4-year-old suffered a traumatic brain injury, while the 9-year-old suffered a traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures.

On June 24, investigators obtained an additional warrant charging Dunay with second-degree murder following the death of one person from the crash. The murder warrant does not identify the deceased, and it is unclear from court records whether the person who died was one of the injured children or another occupant.

The felony serious injury by vehicle warrants allege Dunay’s impaired driving was the proximate cause of the children’s injuries.
