SALISBURY, N.C. — Salisbury police continue to investigate a deadly shooting that occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rushco convenience store on East Innes Street.

Officers responded to the convenience store after receiving reports of multiple people being shot. According to Salisbury police, two people were struck by gunfire.

One victim died from their injuries. Police said the second victim suffered minor injuries. The identities of the victims have not been released.

As the investigation continued Sunday afternoon, officers located additional shell casings near the intersection of Green Street and Bringle Ferry Road. Investigators are working to determine whether the evidence is connected to the shooting at the convenience store.

Area hospitals have also been alerted to notify law enforcement if any additional patients arrive seeking treatment for gunshot wounds that could be related to the investigation.

According to dispatch traffic, a caller also reported that someone threw a handgun from the window of an older Dodge pickup truck near the intersection of Prescott Drive and Old Mocksville Road shortly after the shooting. The firearm, described as a possible loaded Glock, was reported to have landed in a roadside ditch. The caller remained nearby until officers arrived. The reported vehicle was described as an older faded Dodge pickup with white and blue coloring and tinted windows. Authorities have not confirmed whether that incident is connected to the deadly shooting.

Investigators remained on scene Sunday processing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Police have not announced whether a suspect has been identified or taken into custody.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Salisbury Police Department or Rowan County Crime Stoppers.

This is a developing story. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
