LEXINGTON, N.C. — A Lexington man is facing a felony charge after investigators say he attacked a 61-year-old man with a sword during an argument over household chores, leaving the victim with serious injuries.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Wednesday, July 1, to a residence in the 200 block of Pears Hart Lane after receiving a report that a person had been assaulted with a sword.
When deputies arrived, they found the 61-year-old victim suffering from major lacerations to his face and head. Investigators said the injuries were caused by a large sword.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation determined that 27-year-old Jimmy Winstead allegedly struck the victim following an earlier disagreement over the victim not sweeping or mopping the floor.
The victim was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
Winstead was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, a felony under North Carolina law.
He was booked into the Davidson County Detention Center under no bond and was scheduled to appear in Davidson County District Court on Thursday, July 2.
