Law enforcement agencies across Rowan, Cabarrus, Davie, Davidson, Forsyth and Randolph counties are joining communities Tuesday for National Night Out, an annual event designed to strengthen relationships between residents and public safety personnel.
National Night Out is held each year on the first Tuesday in August and features neighborhood gatherings, demonstrations, family activities and opportunities for residents to meet the officers, deputies and first responders who serve their communities.
Several local agencies are hosting or participating in events throughout the region.
In Rowan County, the Salisbury Police Department is hosting its National Night Out celebration at Bell Tower Green. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is expected to participate alongside other public safety partners. The Granite Quarry-Faith Police Department is also taking part in community activities.
The Kannapolis Police Department will host its annual National Night Out event at the Swanee Theatre. Because Kannapolis spans both Rowan and Cabarrus counties, the event serves residents from both communities.
In Cabarrus County, the Concord Police Department is participating in neighborhood events throughout the city, while the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a community event at the Cabarrus Arena.
The Davie County Sheriff’s Office is participating in National Night Out activities in Mocksville.
In Davidson County, the Lexington Police Department and Thomasville Police Department are among the agencies participating in local events.
Forsyth County residents will find National Night Out events featuring the Winston-Salem Police Department and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, with agencies participating in community gatherings throughout the county.
In Randolph County, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Asheboro Police Department are participating in National Night Out events aimed at promoting community engagement and crime prevention.
Many events also include local fire departments, emergency medical services, community organizations and other public safety partners. Activities often feature emergency vehicle displays, K-9 demonstrations, children’s activities, food vendors and opportunities for residents to learn about crime prevention and public safety programs.
National Night Out was introduced in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch and has grown into one of the nation’s largest community policing initiatives, with millions of people participating each year.
