DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A 19-year-old Winston-Salem man died Sunday evening after drowning at Pebble Beach on High Rock Lake in Davidson County, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the victim as Eliezer Sanchez.
Investigators said Sanchez was swimming at Pebble Beach on Aug. 16 when he became distressed in the water and was unable to make it safely back to shore.
Emergency crews responded to the swimming area and recovered Sanchez from the water. He was pronounced dead.
Pebble Beach, also known as Flat Swamp, is a public recreation area on High Rock Lake near Denton. The site includes a designated swimming area separated from boat traffic by a floating barrier.
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the drowning. No additional details about the circumstances leading to the incident have been released.
