
ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A 27-year-old man has been charged with murder following a Friday night shooting on Oak Breeze Drive in western Rowan County that left one person dead and another injured.
Jaylen Tyrese White, 27, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 5, and charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Law enforcement and first responders were called to Oak Breeze Drive on Friday night after a shooting involving two victims. One victim was confirmed dead at the scene. A second victim was transported by ground ambulance for treatment. The condition of the surviving victim was not immediately available.
During the response, a resident came out of a home on Oak Breeze Drive and told a deputy that a man had entered his residence and said he had just shot someone.
Law enforcement focused its response on a residence near the shooting scene. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team responded to the location and entered the residence.
White was subsequently taken into custody.
White was booked Saturday on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or additional information about what led to the shooting.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Update: Sarah Sharpe, 38, has been identified as the person who died following the shooting on Oak Breeze Drive in western Rowan County.
