
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Chris Hill has been promoted to chief of police for the City of Kannapolis after previously serving as the department’s deputy chief.
Hill will oversee the Kannapolis Police Department and its 131 sworn and non-sworn positions. His responsibilities include leading the department’s efforts to prevent crime, protect people and property, and enforce laws and city ordinances.
Hill brings 17 years of law enforcement experience to the position and has served in several divisions within the Kannapolis Police Department.
Kannapolis City Manager Wilmer Melton said Hill’s experience and relationships within the community helped prepare him for the leadership role.
“Chris brings 17 years of experience and a proven commitment to the Kannapolis community to his role within the police department,” Melton said. “Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of divisions, gaining valuable experience while building strong relationships with residents, business owners and community partners.”
Melton also praised Hill’s approach to leadership, crime prevention and problem-solving.
“We have been impressed by Chris’s calm, thoughtful and level-headed approach to leadership, particularly when it comes to crime prevention, problem-solving and navigating challenging situations,” Melton said.
Hill said he is honored to take over leadership of the department and plans to continue strengthening relationships between police and the community.
“I am honored to be chosen as the next Chief of Police,” Hill said. “I am excited to lead the men and women of this agency as we continue to build upon the great reputation of the Kannapolis Police Department.”
Hill said he looks forward to working with residents and business owners as Kannapolis continues to grow and evolve.
“I love the Kannapolis community and look forward to continuing working with community members to advance our goals of building bridges with residents and business owners,” Hill said. “Proactively working together allows us to communicate and collaborate as our City evolves.”
