
SOPHIA, N.C. — A 22-year-old Greensboro man has been charged following a shooting Saturday night at Caraway Speedway that left two people injured.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Caraway Speedway on Race Track Road in Sophia on Sept. 26 following a report of a shooting and assault.
Deputies found two people suffering from injuries described as non-life-threatening. Both victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Following an investigation, detectives identified Derek Luther Marshall, 22, as a suspect.
Marshall was taken into custody Sept. 27 and charged with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Marshall was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center and was issued no bond by a magistrate. He is scheduled to appear in Randolph County District Court on Sept. 28.
Authorities have not released the identities of the two victims or additional information about what led to the shooting.
The investigation remains ongoing.
