CONCORD, N.C. — Carolina Mall Cinema has permanently closed its doors after nearly 50 years of showing movies in Concord.
The theater announced the closure Monday morning, Sept. 28, saying it was closing effective immediately. The cinema was located at 120 Country Club Drive.
“It’s with a heavy heart to inform everyone that the Carolina Mall Cinema is closed as of today,” the theater said in its announcement. The business thanked its customers and said staff would miss seeing its regular patrons each week.
The theater did not provide a reason for the closure.
Movie screenings at the location dated back to 1976, when the theater opened as Carolina Mall Cinema III with three screens. The theater later expanded and continued serving moviegoers in Concord for decades.
Carolina Mall Cinema was known locally for its lower-cost movie tickets, offering an alternative to larger theater chains in the area.
The closure marks the end of nearly five decades of movie screenings at the Country Club Drive location.
