DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of K9 Chase, a police dog who died Wednesday, Oct. 21, following a medical emergency.
Chase, a Czech Shepherd born Sept. 25, 2021, joined the sheriff’s office in 2023 and served alongside his handler, Cpl. J. Graham.
As a multipurpose K9, Chase assisted deputies in law enforcement operations and played a role in protecting Davidson County residents.
The sheriff’s office announced his death Wednesday, recognizing his service and the close relationship he shared with Graham.
Throughout their partnership, Chase and Graham spent countless hours training and working together. The department described their relationship as one built on trust, loyalty and dedication.
For Graham, Chase was more than a working partner. He was also a companion and part of his family.
“Chase was not only Cpl. Graham’s partner on duty, but also a trusted companion,” the sheriff’s office said in its announcement.
Chase served the department for approximately three years. He had turned 5 less than a month before his death.
The sheriff’s office did not release additional details about the medical emergency.
Department officials asked the community to keep Graham and fellow deputies in their thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss.
“Rest easy, Chase. Thank you for your service, your loyalty and your dedication to the citizens of Davidson County,” the department said.
Chase’s end of watch was Oct. 21, 2026.
