SALISBURY, N.C. — Authorities are investigating the death of a Charlotte man whose body was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Catawba College Ecological Preserve.

According to the Salisbury Police Department, detectives responded to the preserve around 2 p.m. on June 3 after a college employee reported finding an adult male who appeared to be deceased in a remote area of the property.

Investigators secured the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The man was identified as 38-year-old Carlos Enrique Leon Aristoteles. Detectives later confirmed through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department that Aristoteles had been reported missing in Charlotte on May 29.

Authorities said Aristoteles was not a Rowan County resident and was not a student at Catawba College.

Police have not released information regarding a cause or manner of death. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to his death.

The Salisbury Police Department said there is currently no indication of any threat to the community.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact Detective Lt. Casper at 704-638-5333. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
