
COOLEEMEE, N.C. — A Cooleemee woman faces six animal cruelty charges after authorities found several dead animals and removed surviving animals from a home, according to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.
Davie County Animal Services responded to a home on Grove Street on the night of Aug. 6 following a report of animal cruelty involving a dead animal inside the residence.
A responding deputy found a dead dog and several other animals inside the home, according to the sheriff’s office. Three dogs and a pet rat were removed due to what authorities described as exigent circumstances.
Investigators later obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence. During the search, authorities found and removed a cat and recovered the remains of several additional animals.
Nanette Morgan Isenhour, 55, of Cooleemee, was arrested and charged with four felony counts of cruelty to animals and two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals under North Carolina law.
Isenhour received a $10,000 secured bond and surrendered custody of the surviving animals to Davie County Animal Services.
The surviving animals are receiving veterinary care. Authorities said one remained under a guarded prognosis.
The sheriff’s office thanked the Cooleemee Fire Department, Davie County Rescue Squad, Jerusalem Fire Department, Mocksville Fire Department, Davie County EMS and Davie County Fire Marshal’s Office/Emergency Management for providing support and personal protective equipment during the investigation.
