ROCKWELL, N.C. — Organ Church Road in Rockwell is closed following a crash involving an overturned dump truck, according to emergency officials.
The crash brought down power lines, creating a hazardous situation and forcing the closure of the roadway while emergency responders and utility crews worked at the scene.
The driver of the dump truck became trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by first responders. The driver was transported by Rowan County EMS to Atrium Health Kannapolis. The extent of the driver’s injuries has not been released.
Rockwell Rural Fire Department and Gold Hill Fire Department responded to the scene along with the Rowan County Rescue Squad, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Rowan County EMS and utility crews.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the roadway is reopened.
