MOCKSVILLE, N.C. — A 17-year-old has been charged after investigators determined he brought a handgun onto the Davie High School campus Friday morning, according to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began Friday afternoon, Aug. 28, after the school resource officer assigned to Davie High School received information that a former student had been on campus earlier in the day with a handgun.
The sheriff’s office said the juvenile remained inside his vehicle in a campus parking area and displayed a holstered handgun to several acquaintances before leaving the property.
Authorities said the handgun was never removed from its holster and no threats were made toward students, staff members or the school.
The school resource officer reviewed campus surveillance video and confirmed the former student had been on school property that morning, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators later located the juvenile at his residence and interviewed him in the presence of his father. The sheriff’s office said the juvenile admitted to having the handgun while on school property.
Deputies seized the firearm as evidence.
The juvenile is being charged in juvenile court with possession of a firearm on educational property under North Carolina General Statute 14-269.2.
The sheriff’s office said no identifying information will be released because the suspect is a juvenile. Juvenile court proceedings are confidential under North Carolina law.
Authorities said there was no threat to the broader school population and normal school operations were not interrupted.
The sheriff’s office said investigators are not seeking any additional suspects in connection with the case.
