KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — Kernersville police are searching for a man accused of leaving the scene of a hit-and-run crash that injured two people earlier this month.
The Kernersville Police Department said officers responded around 1:40 p.m. Aug. 17 to the 700 block of Piney Grove Road for a reported hit-and-run collision.
Officers found a vehicle that had traveled off the roadway and came to rest in a wooded area. Two occupants suffered injuries police described as non-life-threatening. Both were taken by Forsyth County EMS to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Investigators determined another vehicle, described as a red Honda, was involved in the crash. Police said the Honda also sideswiped a privately owned activity bus before leaving the scene. No passengers were aboard the bus at the time.
The investigation took another turn Aug. 21 when Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 8600 block of Belews Creek Road, where they found a red Honda Accord submerged in water.
Members of the Kernersville Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded and recovered the vehicle. Investigators later determined the Honda Accord was the suspect vehicle involved in the Aug. 17 crash, according to police.
Investigators identified Logan Michael Milstead as the suspect with assistance from witnesses, victims and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Kernersville police obtained warrants for Milstead on multiple charges.
Felony charges include two counts of hit-and-run involving injury, altering, stealing or destroying criminal evidence, and obstructing justice.
Misdemeanor charges include hit-and-run involving leaving the scene with property damage, failure to report an accident, driving or allowing a motor vehicle without registration, expired registration card or tag, giving, lending or borrowing a license plate, driving while license revoked for an impaired-revocation offense, no liability insurance and unintentionally littering between 10 and 500 pounds.
Milstead also faces infractions for failure to yield while making a left turn and driving left of center.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
