LEXINGTON, N.C. — A Lexington man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after Davidson County sheriff’s deputies found two people dead inside a home Monday morning.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 7:47 a.m. Monday, June 29, to a residence in the 48 block of Cedar Grove Drive after a 911 caller reported that an individual claimed to have broken into the home and killed two people.

Cade Addison Hyskell

When deputies arrived, they encountered 38-year-old Cade Addison Hyskell in the yard of a neighboring residence. Authorities said Hyskell refused to comply with deputies’ lawful commands and was taken into custody on a charge of resisting a public officer. He was initially held in the Davidson County Jail without bond because he was on pretrial release.

Deputies then conducted a welfare check at the Cedar Grove Drive residence after finding exterior doors unsecured. During a search of the home, deputies discovered two deceased adults, later identified as 51-year-old Susie Kiger and 40-year-old Joshua Purvis. Investigators said both victims lived at the residence.

Detectives with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and launched a homicide investigation. The agency’s Crime Scene Investigation Team processed the residence while detectives gathered evidence.

Following the investigation, authorities charged Hyskell with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary.

Hyskell remains in the Davidson County Jail without bond and was scheduled to make his first court appearance in Davidson County District Court on Tuesday, June 30.

Autopsies for both victims will be performed by the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Allen with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 336-242-2123.
