SALISBURY, NC: More than 100 firefighters responded to a massive four-alarm fire at The Grand on Julian in Salisbury on Saturday evening.
Initial reports indicated people were trapped on the third floor, with witnesses reporting that some occupants jumped from the building to escape the flames. Dramatic photos circulating on social media appear to show a balcony engulfed in flames before the fire rapidly spread to the roof of the apartment complex.
Approximately 60 residents have been displaced by the fire. Emergency crews from across the area worked for hours to bring the blaze under control and ensure all occupants were evacuated safely.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Rowan County Emergency Services Fire Division said investigators will not be able to safely enter the building to begin determining the cause and origin of the fire until Sunday morning.
Officials have not released information regarding the number or severity of any injuries.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
