ROCKWELL, N.C. — A 16-year-old was arrested after an armed robbery and shooting Wednesday morning in the parking lot of a Rockwell church, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 9:35 a.m. Sept. 23 to Restoration Church near Cannon Street and Cal Miller Road.
Investigators said the victim had arranged to meet the teenager in the church parking lot. During the encounter, the teen allegedly pulled out a firearm and robbed the victim.
The sheriff’s office said the teen struck the victim in the head with the firearm and fired at least one shot. The victim was not struck by the gunfire but suffered serious injuries from being hit with the weapon. The injuries were considered non-life-threatening.
Investigators identified the teen as a suspect and later searched a home in Cabarrus County. Authorities said the teenager attempted to run from deputies before being taken into custody.
The juvenile faces charges of robbery with a firearm and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The investigation remains ongoing.
