Rowan County Emergency Services has promoted Heather Hewitt to EMS Division Chief, elevating a longtime leader with more than two decades of service to oversee the county’s emergency medical services operations.
Hewitt began her career with Rowan County EMS as an EMT-Intermediate and steadily advanced through the ranks, serving as a paramedic, preceptor, lieutenant, captain and most recently battalion chief.
During her tenure as battalion chief, Hewitt supervised countywide EMS operations, including personnel management, emergency response, training programs, resource allocation and operational readiness. Rowan County officials said she played a significant role in maintaining high standards of patient care while promoting professionalism, accountability and teamwork across the agency.
In addition to her operational leadership, Hewitt has served as a Peer Support Specialist, advocating for employee wellness, mental health awareness and responder resilience. County officials credited her with helping strengthen support systems for EMS employees and fostering a healthy workplace culture.
As EMS Division Chief, Hewitt will lead the county’s Emergency Medical Services Division, overseeing daily operations, personnel development, clinical excellence, system preparedness and service delivery. She will work alongside agency leadership, community partners and field personnel to ensure emergency medical services remain responsive to the needs of Rowan County residents.
“Heather’s promotion reflects a career built on dedication, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to serving both our employees and the citizens of Rowan County,” Emergency Services Chief TJ Brown said in a statement. “Her experience, leadership ability, and passion for EMS make her exceptionally qualified to lead our EMS Division into the future.”
Hewitt holds numerous professional certifications in emergency medical services, leadership, incident management, safety, peer support and critical incident stress management. She also completed the EMS Management Institute through the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and has continued pursuing professional development throughout her career.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Hewitt is a wife, mother of two and is preparing to welcome her first grandchild.
