
CHINA GROVE, N.C. — Strong storms moved across Rowan County on Friday afternoon, prompting at least 17 emergency responses for downed trees, power lines, roadway hazards and a small outside fire in multiple communities.
The incidents were reported between approximately 3:29 p.m. and 6:36 p.m. and affected Salisbury, China Grove, Landis, Rockwell and Faith. Fire departments, emergency responders and utility crews worked throughout the afternoon to clear roads and address storm-related hazards.
China Grove experienced the highest number of reported incidents. Fire crews responded to trees blocking roadways on South Franklin Street, Black Bear Drive, North Main Street, Park Street, Haven Trail and Stafford Road. Responders also handled a downed high-voltage power line on Circle Drive after callers reported vehicles were driving over the line. A pasture fire on Joy Hill Road was also reported after an electric fence was believed to have ignited dry vegetation.
In Landis, emergency crews responded to a utility line hanging across West Ryder Avenue, a large tree limb on power lines near North Beaver Street and East Garden Street, and a tree with downed power lines on Flat Rock Road. A small outside fire was also reported near the Flat Rock Road incident.
Rockwell firefighters responded to reports of trees blocking Lower Stone Church Road and Henderson Drive. Crews also handled a call involving a tree that brought down power lines on John Miller Road.
Salisbury crews responded to a reported transformer fire with a tree blocking the roadway near Maple Ridge Circle. Responders also handled a fallen tree blocking both lanes of Airport Road after a vehicle reportedly struck the tree.
In Faith, emergency crews responded to South Main Street near Cemetery Drive after a tree was reported hanging over the roadway with possible involvement of power lines.
No serious injuries were reported in the incidents. One vehicle reportedly struck a fallen tree on Airport Road. Utility crews worked alongside emergency responders to restore safe travel conditions and address downed power lines throughout the affected areas.
