LEXINGTON, N.C. — A Thomasville man was arrested on multiple firearm charges after deputies conducted a driver’s license checkpoint in Davidson County, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

The checkpoint was conducted June 1 by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office T.R.A.C.E. Team at the intersection of Lacy Hepler Road and Mount Zion Church Road near Thomasville.

During the operation, deputies stopped a Chevrolet Traverse after determining the driver, identified as Bryan Christopher Shell of Thomasville, was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

According to authorities, deputies discovered a concealed firearm during the traffic stop. Shell was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon.

The sheriff’s office said Shell was booked into the Davidson County Jail and held without bond because he was already out on pretrial release at the time of the arrest.

Court records indicate Shell is scheduled to appear in Davidson County District Court later this month.

Under North Carolina law, release conditions in criminal cases are determined by judicial officials. The sheriff’s office noted that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
