WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The City of Winston-Salem says residents have shown strong compliance with its new Youth Protection Ordinance, with no citations issued since the measure took effect last month.

The ordinance, which became effective on June 22 after approval by the Winston-Salem City Council, is intended to improve public safety by protecting young people during late-night hours while emphasizing education and voluntary compliance.

According to city officials, the Winston-Salem Police Department had not issued any citations to juveniles or adults under the ordinance as of July 2.

Instead, officers have focused on educating residents, issuing warnings when needed, and providing information about the ordinance. Police said citations will only be issued when voluntary compliance cannot be achieved or when circumstances require enforcement.

City officials said the early results reflect strong community cooperation.

With holiday events and celebrations taking place throughout the area, officials are encouraging residents to review the Youth Protection Ordinance and understand its requirements. The city said the measure is part of a broader effort to promote public safety while allowing families and young people to safely enjoy community activities.

Officials thanked residents for their continued cooperation and support during the ordinance’s initial weeks of implementation.
