SALISBURY, N.C. — A woman has been charged following an investigation into a reported stabbing Thursday night on Park Avenue that left two women injured, according to the Salisbury Police Department.
Officers responded around 9 p.m. Aug. 13 to 529 Park Ave. following a report of an assault. Police found two injured women, initially believed to have suffered stab wounds.
The women were identified as Cheryl Jean Little, 46, and Shannon Hope Jones, 52. Little was taken to Atrium Health for treatment, while Jones was transported to Novant Health.
Investigators later determined the evidence did not support the initial report that both women had been stabbed.
Police said Little knew the homeowner and allegedly forced her way into the residence through a rear door. Little and Jones became involved in an argument that escalated into a physical fight.
During the altercation, a dog inside the residence attacked Little, according to police. Investigators believe Jones’ injuries were primarily caused by the dog.
Little suffered a significant wound to her upper arm. Police said investigators have not determined what caused the injury.
Officers found blood inside the residence and damage to the rear door, including a broken security chain and damaged wood. Investigators did not locate a knife or another weapon believed to have been used in a stabbing.
Little was charged with felony breaking and entering and assault. She was arrested after being released from the hospital and was held in the Cabarrus County Detention Center under a $3,000 secured bond.
The Salisbury Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing.
