MOCKSVILLE, N.C. — A 36-year-old Mocksville man faces multiple charges after authorities say he stabbed a man outside a Food Lion while the victim’s children were inside his vehicle Sunday night.
Davie County sheriff’s deputies responded at about 8:32 p.m. Aug. 30 to the Food Lion at 796 Valley Road after receiving a report of a stabbing.
When deputies arrived, both the victim and the suspect were inside the store. Deputies found the suspect, identified as Eric Burgess, behind the deli counter and took him into custody without incident.
Investigators said the victim had dropped his wife off at the front entrance and parked to wait for her. His children remained in the vehicle with him.
According to the sheriff’s office, Burgess approached the victim on foot and struck him in the chin or neck area with a knife before returning to his vehicle.
The victim contacted his wife, told her he had been stabbed and drove to the front of the store to pick her up. He also called 911.
As the victim’s wife left the store, Burgess approached on foot, according to investigators. The victim then drove into Burgess, knocking him to the ground.
Burgess got back on his feet and ran inside the Food Lion. The victim also entered the store.
The victim suffered injuries authorities described as non-life-threatening. Deputies recovered the weapon at the scene.
Burgess was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, going armed to the terror of the people, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and assault on a female.
Burgess was being held in the Davie County Detention Center without bond. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 10.
