The 2026 Operation Firecracker “Booze It & Lose It” campaign resulted in more than 1,600 traffic violations during the Independence Day holiday enforcement period, according to campaign officials.
Law enforcement officers conducted increased patrols throughout the holiday week to target impaired driving, speeding and other traffic violations in an effort to improve roadway safety.
During the campaign, officers charged 17 drivers age 21 and older with driving while impaired. They also issued 340 speeding citations, 179 citations for driving while license revoked and 34 reckless driving charges.
Officers cited 19 drivers for seat belt violations and 11 for child passenger safety violations.
In addition to traffic enforcement, officers made two felony arrests, recovered two stolen vehicles and apprehended 109 wanted persons.
Overall, officers issued 1,620 traffic violations during the campaign.
Officials thanked motorists who chose to drive responsibly during the holiday period, saying safe driving decisions help reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities on North Carolina roadways.
