CONCORD, N.C. — A 17-year-old Charlotte resident has been charged with murder and multiple other offenses after a shooting in Concord left a man dead and a teenage girl seriously injured, police said.
According to the Concord Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Bedlington Drive NW at approximately 12:39 a.m. Monday following a report of an assault with injuries.
When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old girl was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Investigators said the preliminary investigation determined that the suspect, identified as Keshaun Tirrell Degraffenreid, 17, and the 16-year-old victim were involved in a dating relationship and had become involved in an argument that escalated into a violent confrontation.
Police allege the 47-year-old victim was shot while attempting to intervene in the dispute. Investigators said Degraffenreid then fired multiple rounds, seriously injuring the teenage girl.
Officers located Degraffenreid on a nearby street shortly after the shooting. Following a brief foot pursuit, he was taken into custody without further incident.
Degraffenreid has been charged as an adult with one count of first-degree murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, resisting a public officer, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The identity of the deceased victim has not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
