The Davie County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Winston-Salem woman following an investigation into alleged financial exploitation involving an elderly victim.
According to investigators, the case began on Feb. 27, 2026, after deputies received a report of suspicious activity on an elderly woman’s bank account. A family member told authorities she discovered numerous ATM withdrawals while reviewing her mother-in-law’s account and believed the victim’s caretaker was responsible.
Investigators said the unauthorized transactions occurred during early February at ATM locations in Davie County and Winston-Salem.
Detectives obtained surveillance footage from Wells Fargo through a search warrant and identified Tiffany Monque Smith, 41, of Winston-Salem, as the suspect in the fraudulent transactions.
Smith faces the following charges:
- 10 counts of felony identity theft
- 10 counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses
- Seven counts of felony financial card fraud
- Three counts of misdemeanor financial card fraud
- One count of financial card theft
- One count of felony exploitation of a disabled or elderly adult in a position of trust
Authorities said Smith was arrested May 9 by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
She was given a $60,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Davie County District Court on May 20, 2026. Smith remains in custody at the Davie County Detention Center.
