SALISBURY, N.C. , The Salisbury Police Department is inviting residents to four neighborhood block parties this summer as part of its Community Block Party Series, an initiative focused on building stronger relationships between law enforcement and the community. The events are being held in partnership with Communities In Schools Rowan County and the City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department. Kannapolis police have arrested the suspect sought in connection with Sunday’s shooting in the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Reginald Saquan Wakefield, 33, was taken into custody after police issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for a silver Dodge Challenger believed to be connected to the investigation. Wakefield has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied property, and assault by pointing a gun. The additional charges allege gunfire also struck two occupied homes during the incident. Wakefield remains in custody as the investigation continues. Original Story
SALISBURY, N.C. — Salisbury police continue to investigate a deadly shooting that occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rushco convenience store on East Innes Street. Officers responded to the convenience store after receiving reports of multiple people being shot. According to Salisbury police, two people were struck by gunfire. One victim died from their injuries. Police said the second victim suffered minor injuries. The identities of the victims have not been released. KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Police are searching for a suspect after a woman was shot Sunday afternoon at a home on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Kannapolis. According to initial emergency dispatch traffic, officers responded to reports of a shooting inside a residence. Emergency medical personnel staged nearby until law enforcement secured the scene before entering the home to treat the victim. The woman was transported to a hospital. CONCORD, N.C. — A 21-year-old Cabarrus County man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators accused him of producing sexually explicit material involving an 18-month-old child, according to arrest warrants. Jerell K’Sean Reddick, of Kannapolis, was arrested June 26 and charged with two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 2-year-old child died Friday afternoon following a drowning incident in northeastern Winston-Salem. According to the Winston-Salem Fire Department, crews responded to a medical emergency at approximately 3:08 p.m. in the 4000 block of Northampton Drive. Firefighters located the child after a reported drowning and immediately began providing emergency medical care. Despite life-saving efforts, the child died. No additional information about the circumstances surrounding the drowning has been released. The incident remains under investigation.
Gregory Dreux Crateau, 48, of Davie County, was arrested June 23 in Winston-Salem on a warrant charging him with failing to register as a sex offender, according to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant was issued March 26 after investigators alleged Crateau failed to comply with North Carolina’s sex offender registration requirements. Authorities said Crateau was convicted Sept. 12, 2016, on four counts of indecent liberties with a minor.
